This blog is about my dream of becoming a children's book illustrator. I worked for 7 years as a 2D animator and story artist, and I loved my work. I mean, I REALLY loved my work. I would run to work because I was so excited about the prospect of drawing all day. When I had my children I became utterly enchanted by children's books. I am studying an MA in children's illustration and this blog is to chart my progress, my thoughts, desolation, and inspiration.

Lino day
Have tried to do some Lino cutting today. This is something I haven't attempted since school, so I am clearly a novice here, ancient as I am! I enjoyed it. I cut the Lino twice so that I had two tones of green with white. It is meant to be those plants that are in hedgerows everywhere at the moment. If Google is to be believed, then they are called; umbelliferae.

ReplyDeleteThanks lovely, miss p thought they were birds.....back to the drawing board!
ReplyDeleteYou're so good with colour!
ReplyDeleteThanks sasha, I feel like I know nothing about colour. I got 1 print out of 15 that I thought was ok. Is this normal for printing?
ReplyDeleteThere's always some mis-printing that occurs, but it does get less as you get more experienced. I would say I average around 70-80%%. It's more difficult when you're printing by hand as there's more that can go wrong. Thinner Japanese papers, however, can increase your success rate. Once I started using thinner papers I was able to produce great prints regularly.
ReplyDeleteThanks sasha, have just seen this. I will get the rice paper out. X
